Fussy Piecing

Funny, I’ve just realised I’ve done this in two mediums – fabric for an eye-spy quilt, and paper for …well, keep reading…

Copic/Promarker colouring seems to have taken the crafting world by storm – honestly, everyone is doing it and lots of people are doing beautiful work but this is one band-wagon I am NOT jumping on – seen the price of these glorified felt-tip pens ? EEEEK !!! Plus I am so not confident in my colouring-in skills – I have my daughter’s patience where that is concerned. By I do like to fussy-cut. Basically, this means, stamping an image on (usually) DP, cutting it out and applying to a blank image ( I know you are so inspired by that description… here’s a link to someone else’s post !!  )

Today I made a card for Hannah, to say thank -you for taking DD out for the day again. Hannah is such an angel, and I thought this would be appropriate for her..

The angel’s wings and her dress are fussy cut.

I’m sorry, but I have NO IDEA where this stamp came from – I bought several in the series, with appropriate sentiments, and made 1 card with them. I didn’t really like the card so I think it put me off using them again – however, I do like this one so it may be time for another play ! Incidentally, I made that little flower decoration too – most pleased !! Now I’m hoping that the Stickles all dry before Hannah brings DD home… !!

For Ali

I rarely make cards without a purpose these days, but this was one. However, in making, it evolved into a card for Ali, a v dear friend who seems to have dropped off the radar recently – and I’ve been so wrapped up in my own stuff I haven’t noticed. Ali  is  the kind of friend you don’t let get away…

It was inspired by Jennifer Ellefson’s card – please note, I say inspired by not CASEd for once !! Hers is very sweet, mine is …bright ! Look, ORANGE !!! Remember, the one inkpad I don’t own – well didn’t. I saw one going cheap recently and it was one of those “o-kayyyy…” moments. But it’s all good …I think… !!!

Anyhow, ingredients…

* DP is K&C (that’s all I know..)

* Cupcake image is Papermania  – actually I think it’s one of the freebie images on the latest issue of the Docrafts magazine ‘Creativity’

* Love Mugs by Amuse ( but I can’t find it on their site so I think it’s gone !)

* ORANGE sofa and sentiment is On My Couch Additions by Papertrey Ink

* ribbon was a freebie from a magazine from when I bought card magazines….

You won’t be able to see in the photo, but there is quite a bit of subtle shimmer on the card. I Stickled the cupcake’s icing with Distress Dried Marigold Stickles and each of the circles is spritzed with a mix of Glimmer mists. I edged the circles with Wild Honey (yumm!!) , then Tea Dye (both Distress).

All in all, I think I like it.

And, Ali, there’s only one cupcake. Mine.

Edited: Oooh ! I just realised that this card qualifies for the new A Passion For Papertrey challenge : Invites. Yay !!

Thanks again Carol !!

A new Fancy Fold !!

I made this for DH’s grandmother.

He’s seriously not keen on it. Apparently it’s bigger than he’s used to – it’s A5, same as his Valentines card. When I pointed this out, he flustered about the step design “having a bigger footprint”

But, it’s all cool, I know exactly how to make it seem more attractive to him.

Have you seen the price of a half-decent commercial card recently?

* Images are Hero Arts Real Flowers

* Quote is from SmARTworks

* punched butterflies are Martha Stewart

Heh, heh, heh….

… looks like my gene-pool has beaten DH’s once more !!!!

This is 4yr old DD first “mumma, help me make a proper card for M- birthday !!”

So I did. Guess which bits…!!! ( yeah, my colouring sucks !)

Man, she was SOOOO excited to use my Stickles. And it had to be blue matted. Twice, because she liked both blues I had available ( oh yeah, she was restricted. I’d love to say that, as an educationalist, I believe you have to limit children’s choices or they become overwhelmed …but, the truth is, as a crafter IT’S MY STASH SHE’S RIPPING THROUGH ….!!! )

We stamped a little “made with my own two hands” on the back and she signed her name under it.

It was fun, we’ll do it again ( basically because she now wants to make herself lots of cards – yup, for HERSELF. I like her thinking… !)

(incidentally, the image is an Elzybells)

Heard you caught a bug…

On the days that I am not occupying our sofa, I’ve tried to make a card or so – just to keep from going mad. Here’s a recent addition to the box. I’m sorry, but I have NO idea where the stamps came from, but the bug is embossed with a Judikins powder.

I South-Western punched the corners and used space-dyed thread to embellish. Super simple, but I kinda like it !!

I promise I’m not off on another “oooh, don’t really like this style …watch me make a million…” We all remember the One Layer Obsession of 2010, and then the DL  Fascination of the same year…

Anyway, this is my last A Passion for Papertrey tag.

The round taggie thing was one of the Anniversary freebies – I don’t know if they’re still available. I Stickled the flower. Incidentally, you might think the colours on the tag are a bit different, and you’d be right. No fancy computer trickery for this effect, just make sure your printer is running out of yellow ink…. !

* Lacy frame is Papertrey Ink’s Limitless Layer dies

* Embossed flowers was a free embossing folder from the Docrafts Creativity magazine ( I inked the embossing side with white ink before I ran it through)

* Background tag is PTI Tage sale 2

So there you go. It’s all over.

(but it was fun while it lasted, right ?! )

…and she don’t care !!!

I have had the Beatles “Ticket to Ride” in my head ALL DAY !!!

Creative process was kicked off from this video when I watched Erin Lincoln die-cutting with her Cuttlebug and realising that she could die-cut with exact placement of her dies by simply turning her plates over. REVELATION !!! So I went a little die cut crazy and blasted out a bunch. AND THEN I paired up my tag die and car die and …BING!! Inspiration struck – here’s the result

* Map is cheap old map from car atlas ( I glued it onto the card first then die-cut the layers together – easy peasy !)

* Car image is Papertrey Ink’s “Enjoy the Ride

* Ticket images are from Papertrey Ink’s “Just the Ticket

* Dies are Tage Sale 2,  Just the Tacket Border and Enjoy the Ride car  – all found here

Of course I’m entering this for the A Passion for Papertrey Tag Challenge – particularly as my last entry was a top 3 pick !! Woo hoo !!

I really LOVE this tag, and I’m going to turn it into a card. My uncle retires this year, and I think it’ll be the perfect card for that as he intends to do a lot of travelling …and he’s of the era of the song !

Tag and Frame – Papertrey Ink Challenge

As part of the new release of PTI goodness, today’s challenge was to make a tag  with a frame combo. Aaargh – challenging. I don’t really do tags, I don’t see the point of handcrafting something that’ll get ripped off in two seconds flat ( yup, I have a four year old ) BUT I do fancy the prize !! That, coupled with the fact that A Passion For Papertrey’s challenge this week is also tags, kinda spurred me on. So here it is – my super simple tag and frame combo.

*aeroplane is from Fly Away

* sentiment and frame are Fillable Frames 5

* Dies are  Tag Sale 2 and  Fillable Frame 5 die

Well, you gotta be in it to win it – rght ?!!

Make It Monday – Papertrey Ink challenge

Nichole (PTI Queen) announced today that they were having a new weekly challenge series called Make It Monday – check out the details here. Basically, this week’s challenge is to use your collection of similar sentiments to make a sentiment background …oh, check the link, I am not describing this well !

I actually have a couple of these sentiment type backgrounds – which I am now inspired to pull out for other cards – but I have had a go at making my own, and I was surprised at how easy and quickly the above card came together! I didn’t have a BIG PTI sentiment to make the focal point so I decided to have a sentiment strip inked in a different colour to make it stand out. Here is the ingredients list:

* wreath image and pink sentiment are from Wreath for All Seasons ( this is it’s first outing! )  I Stickled some of the dots on the wreath to give it that somethin’ somethin’

* other sets include; Sign Language, Through the Trees, Vintage Picnic, Masculine Motifs, Enjoy the Ride and Just the Ticket (I think I got them all !!)

All the stamp resources are available here

I am really happy with how this turned out – and my husband’s response to it was very impressive! He rarely gets excited about my cards, but this one was examined carefully and tilted to get the full effect of the stickles. Okay, you can’t tilt it, but you can click on the photo to get it a bit bigger to see the stickles !!

I’m going to have another shot at this design with a twist – I have a plan….
