What do you do with a Snow Day three and a half weeks before Christmas ?

I put mine to good use !

I realised that DD didn’t have her own advent calendar this year. Normally someone has given her one, so it’s not been an issue …but her daddy is NOT good at sharing his !! I was picking up some sewing supplies recently and I saw a very cute Santa panel to make. Now, usually, I buy these things and they sit in my sewing pile to never see the light of day. Nope. Not this time !! Using my lovely Bernina to machine quilt then bind etc I got this finished very quickly and it’s ready for tomorrow.

It comes with ornaments that you fuse to felt and add a hanger to, then you can hang them off the buttons on the tree ! I made a wee bag to hold all of ours ( but one is already missing …!)

I have one more sewing thing to finish up and show you – and it’s very special !!

SNOW DAY !!!!!!!!

So what did you do this weekend ??

I made 4 little girl playmats (see post below) and I made these…

They are little initialled  PJ cases which I plan to gift with a bedtime story inside!

I also made this…

Which turns into this…

…for my best friend’s wee boy !

My sewing machine has never worked so hard

… and there’s more to come….

Procrastinating sucks…

For the last seven weeks, Christmas presents have been stressing me out. Every year I plan to make several of my presents – sometimes it happens, but usually I need to scale back. So this year I thought I’d get a jump on it and got organised in the October holidays – that would be the first two weeks of October. We now have quite a few little people to get presents for and I think the cost of children’s toys is OBSCENE. We could easily rack up over £100 just on a handful of presents … ummm, no…. I also have a decided aversion to ticky-tacky plastic in all it’s hues, but ESP bubblegum pink. ( hello, clothes and toy makers for little girls – THERE ARE OTHER COLOURS !!!!)

I had seen those cute and (to my mind) creative-play orientated play mats all over the web – but most are orientated to boys and DD is a girly, girly girl (she LOVES pink ticky-tacky… ) However, I found  toy horses in a local cheapie shop and was inspired to make field/pony type play mats. So I bought all the stuff and it sat in my craft room while I sweated every time I thought about it…

Today, I bit the bullet, and 5 hours later have created 4 of these….

Yup 4. In a little over an hour each. Could have saved myself SO much more stress time than that by just getting on with it. Gah. (And I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Bernina sewing machine !!!)

Happy Birthday DH

I could mush and gush about how brilliant my DH is, but I hope this card says it all.

* Images are Papertrey Inks Masculine  Motifs

* Dotty paper is also PTI

* all else is stash

I’m entering this for the new A Passion For Papertrey challenge. I cut EVERYTHING from scraps (as always, I’m cheap!) – the only unscrappy thing on this card is the dotty paper – and, believe me, I thought LONG AND HARD about using such a chunk …but he’s so worth it !!

Breathe in, breathe out and create…

I think I’ve blogged here before about how, for me, crafting is not simply a hobby, it’s (seriously) therapy. Due to extreme circumstances (ie an extended review at work – where a bunch of people come in and observe your work and you actually teaching – Parent’s Night  – where a bunch of people come in and…you get the picture! – and a HORRENDOUS cold ) I haven’t had any time to craft and – oh – I’ve missed it. My mind has been scratchy…

So, tonight, I came home early from work and walked into my craft room. Two hours later, I have looked up and realised that a) I have made a (fancy) card, b) I haven’t heard my daughter in that time (bless, bless, bless my DH) and c) my shoulders have dropped about 3 inches.

Breathe in, breathe out.

This is CASEd from Sarah Martina. Excuse the shadows…

*Image is Creative Stamping 2004 – HH 1039G  (? It’s one of those where you cut a gazillion layers and then put them back together with foam pads. I’ve done that ..um…once…!) It’s holographically embossed on a distressed ink background ( Tumbled Glass, Dusty Concord, and Faded Jeans) and the edges are distressed with Tim Holtz tool.

* small background snowflake is Stampendous Wireworks Small Snowflake  (which I can’t find in their catty…)

* all else is stash!

And I survived the last two weeks..

Breathe in, breathe out….

because five weeks tomorrow is Christmas Eve … !!

Another APFP quickie

..or not so to make, but I did it a while back and realised it qualified for A Passion For Papertrey’s “Anything But A Card”. Well, how about no cardstock at all ?

Yup I made this using a few of my precious PTI buttons, plus others that toned from my vintage (and new !) button collection ( my FIL brought a whisky tin FULL of buttons up on his last visit. He wondered if I could find room for them….) I love it, get loads of compliments when I wear it,  and am planning to make an autumnal toned one.

I am not doing instructions as I have WAY too much on my plate right now – extended review, parent’s night, school disco, inservices, the WORST cold and a family to at least say “I love you” to ….
