Waltzingmouse Challenge

Claire Brennan from Waltzingmouse Stamps, http://www.waltzingmousestamps.com/ , is releasing 8 new sets tomorrow and the ones we’ve seen are just delicious! She posted a challenge on her blog to win them all (wow!!) by interpreting a sketch. You didn’t have to use her stamps – but it seemed the polite thing to do, really !

Here’s my entry ( you can click on the image to enlarge it – can’t get it off teeny tiny !!)

 It uses the Earth Angel set (http://www.waltzingmousestamps.com/products/earth-angel-stamp-set ) which is just jammed with gorgeous images and can be adapted to so many occasions. I really like this aspect of many of Claire’s designs. The angel’s dress is paper-pieced and her wings are stamped on vellum before attaching. Inks are distress inks (scattered straw, tumbled glass and tattered rose) and also versamark brown. To quote Claire, hope it tickles !

Anyhow, posting it in the gallery and crossing fingers. Would be an amazing start to May !!

Another Scrappy Card

I’ve had this image of the dancer stamped on a background of Twinkling H2Os FOREVER! I really like it, but the pink and yellow as very far from my comfort zone… However, bouyed up by the productiveness of last week, I thought I’d have a go…

First, I thought about making an easel card (yes, again!) So I mounted it on pink. Too plain. So I ruffled some pick tulle to go on the bottom edge. Not loving it – but persevered. I glued some sequins to it …and then got SO stuck. It just wasn’t happening. At all. So I abandoned it on the work surface.

However, last night I was browsing around Blogland and found another interesting fold for a card – the Joy fold card. No idea why it’s called that, but it’s super-simple (here’s the tut I used http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/joy_fold_card/ )

Yup, I stripped it all back (unfortunately, the sequins had to stay – PVA)

Now, that’s a rescue !! Very pleased with it now !!

Dancer stamp is from SmARTWORKS

(check out their old catty for HUGE savings !!)

Words in background – ??? Sorry, variety of unknowns

Swirly cuttlebug folder.

Hope you like !

Starbucks, I love you!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’m coming clean. As well as my “issues” with paper and stamps, I have a Starbucks addiction too. Not coffee. Starbucks. I love the culture of it as much as the coffee (shoulda been born an American – and yes, mother, that comment was for you !)

One of the things I look out for when I’m in a Starbucks is to see if they have any of their loyalty/ debit card thingies. These cards are just like ATC (artist trading cards) and they often have different themes on them. So, a few years  back, I started collecting them. I knew eventually I’d need a place to store them (as opposed to just “the pile in the craft room”) so this week I made an envelope accordian book and I was so pleased with how it turned out ! Check out the photos!

This will now sit with my small collection of chunky and fat books (so another story) *sigh* Finally, something that is worthy to hold my Starbucks cards !!!

Another Easel Card !

This one is for the Passion for Papertrey Challenge – Pretty Petals !!

Actually, this was made a while back – and I’d forgotton about it as it was sitting on my camera (see, doesn’t scan, doesn’t get blogged!) I’m still chuffed with it and I think it’s really pretty ! (I love me, who do you love, then ??!!)

I used 2 PTI sets – Button Bits for the flower stems and Beyond Basic Borders for the sentiment

Everything else is unknown stash stuff!

Hope you like !

EDIT: Oooh ! It won !!! Lucky me !

Scrappy card…

… by which  mean it’s all made of scraps! I have a couple of mini-folders, one stuffed with offcuts of paper and card in colour families, and one stuffed with images – either stuff I’ve done and couldn’t find inspiration to use or duplicates when I had kit out already. this image comes from that folder. I love it when I can use up stuff from these folders – I feel very virtuous and thrifty !

* Background is Cuttlebug embossing folder Argyle

* Mat layer is by moi using alcohol inks

* Image is by Funstamps..(no, me neither. Apparently a Uk company..!)

Squint effect is by scanner… Honestly, I’m getting sick of the scanner but if you wait til I photo them, this blog will cease to exist.

I originally made this for my BIL’s birthday cos I thought he was into seahorses. Nope. Dolphins. Oops. So it’ll go in my stash of “send whenever”

I need to actually use that stash sometime !

Easel card

These have been popping up all over Blogland and I love ’em. I finally found REALLY super-simple instructions for making them to your own specs (‘cos we don’t all have American size card, envies etc ) The base layer should be same width but DOUBLE height of the top layer. Ohhhh…right !!! Thanks http://andreawalford.com/ !!

I had a trip to my local stamp shop today – Stampaholics in Perth. This TRULY is a WONDERFUL shop. Everywhere you look is inspiration, and the products with which to create your own. The owner, Siobhan, is one of the most talented ladies I know. She does some projects in Making Cards (often, I’ll open it and spot a card I MUST MAKE, then I realise it’s one of Siobhan’s!) but she also runs workshops which are so relaxing and creative. The website is http://stampaholics.co.uk/ but if you’re ever in Perth, it’s really worth a visit!

Anyhow, I picked up some goodies and used many of them to create this card

* Hero Arts cling

* Distress inks (honest, I do have and do use other brands of ink !!)

* The tab punch is Woodware, and the butterflys are Martha Stewart

* Stickles

It’s for my DH grandmother. Blue poppies are very special to her – and us.

Anyhow, must go and clear up the craft space – then make tea. Turkish Minced Lamb tonight !

PS you notice ? Layers are back, baby !!!!

TOTALLY single layer, NO embellishments, ABSOLUTELY SQUINT!!

Go on. Admit it. you thought I was getting carried away with this no layers thing – right?

Well, one last blast before I go cold turkey.

Flippin’ scanner…

This is all one layer – just one card, stamps and ink.

* All images are – of course – Elzybell

( http://www.elzybells.co.uk/ )

(and it’s especially nice to have a MUmmy stamp instead of a MOmmy stamp. Although I really miss being Mumma…)

* Distress ink in Milled Lavender

* Tombow pens.

*The masked shape was done with a nestie – Vintage Labels 1, I think….

I kinda like it, but it was kinda fiddly, and, no, I have no-one to give this to yet, but it’s nice to have on hand, eh?

And so I bow out of single layer cards for a while.

Because I tidied my workdesk and – oh, my – the scraps that I keep for matting could wallpaper a room.

….Hmmm. The spare room does need a little somethin’ somethin’…..

Summer ATCs (or Elzybell, this is your fault)

See that Elzybell and her flippin’  ‘no layers’ challenge….

So I’m cracking on with the four seasons canvases and I realise that I need 4 new ATCs for Summer (mainly cos all the ones sent to me were of gorgeous sunny places – and I felt I should reflect a more Scottish outlook . I resisted doing one with a brolly though ! )

 So here is the first one I made…

*Paula Best background words

* Distress ink – faded jeans

All in resist technique.

* Elzybells Floral Fevour (a FAB FAB set. Will never need another flower again –

http://www.elzybells.co.uk/ShowDetails.asp?id=1169 )

And -oh – I LOVE LOVE LOVE this ATC. SOOOO much.

So onto number two….

* Can’t remember the bird manufacturer – v common tho.

* Hero Arts Dill

* Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists (first outing – oh, these are FUN !!!)

* Chalk inks

And I love this one too

This is the point I started getting afraid.

Cos there are NO LAYERS on either of these ATCs.

And I feel these are the two best pieces of work I’ve done in a while.

I tried REALLY hard to do layers on ATC number 3.

I had made a card v similar to this a while back  with a stamped acetate layer over a photo.

But I couldn’t figure out how to attach the actetate neatly to the ATC.

And I could emboss over the photo with White embossing powder.

One layer ATC number 3.

* stamp by Hero Arts

So finally I was determined. Here it is. My 3 layer ATC.

(shhh… I don’t like it nearly as much as the others…. And neither does the scanner, obviously…)

* Main image – Stampendous

* Flower head in background – Floral Fervour http://www.elzybells.co.uk/ShowDetails.asp?id=1169

Elzybell. I SO blame you.

Elzybell ATC

 The stamps were out – and still callin’ me.

I don’t know if this qualifies for the One Layer Elzybelles challenge  ( http://elzybells.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/04/challenge-41.html ) , but it is heading me towards completing another UFO!!

Several years ago, I took part in a seasonal ATC swap over on a group called CCSwaps. I got some GORGEOUS artwork back …which has languished in a couple of envelopes since. I am now painting up canvases to mount these ATCs on and swapping some of the ones that I am less keen on for my own artwork. I’ve finished Autumn, but need to crack on with the other seasons. this ATC will go on the spring canvas. Eventually, they will be nounted in my craft room as constant inspiration !

All stamps are Elzybells – http://www.elzybells.co.uk/

Also used – tombow markers, Scattered Straw and Peeled Paint Distress inks.

Gonna go paint up the Spring canvas  – then make fish pie for tea ! Have a fab Saturday !

Elzybelles Challenge – NO LAYERS!!

Here is my entry for the Elzybelles challenge.

I am LOVIN the new stamps that Elzybell is bringing out – this stamp is from her new bird+bees range, see them at http://www.elzybells.co.uk/ ( also check out last months newbies. Just gorgeous)

The challenge was no layers

I don’t do “no layers”

It’s a rule I have.

But I thought I should give this a go, so here it is.

The yellow border was sponged and then I used the bird on a branch Elzybells stamp with the same ink colour to give it a little somethin’ somethin’ . In real life, it looks much less blocky !!

I actually went one step further and decided to limit myself to one-dimension in the whole card (ie no dimensional embellishments) Apart from ink and stamps, I pierced the inner border with a needle (yeah – the bit you can’t see) and I used some Stickles on the bee’s wings (yeah – the other bit you can’t see !)  BTW the card is very centralized; bloomin’ scanner isn’t.

All in all, I like it. Not enough to abandon layers though. Yet… xx
